https://neurologyofcannabis.com I have a real problem with sleep. Is cannabis something that can help me? Hi everybody. I’m Dr. Dan Stein, board-certified neurologist and medical marijuana expert. We’re going to address that common concern today. Sleep disorders are very common. Of course there are benign and more dangerous problems with sleep. But in general, sleep disorders can be correctly diagnosed and effectively treated with cannabis therapy. Some patients simply can’t turn their brains off. They’re anxious or they have too many things on their plate. So they need something called “sleep hygiene,” perhaps doing some exercise, avoiding caffeine, avoiding alcohol, avoiding napping in the afternoon. These types of simple sleep hygiene maneuvers can help most patients get a good night’s sleep by simply preparing the mind and body for a restful night’s sleep. That would be one of the more benign problems. More intense problems with sleep certainly occur as well. There are conditions like restless leg syndrome that cause an uncomfortable, painful urge to move the legs. There are other REM and non-REM sleep disorders that result in jerking of the legs and arms, sometimes vivid dreams or nightmares that disrupt sleep. We use cannabis therapy for a variety of reasons in those patients with sleep disorders. But it’s important to talk with the patient and find out what is the issue with sleep. That’s what we do here in the clinic. We diagnose patients and then we provide the proper treatment. Sometimes patients need inhalation therapy to get to sleep. Sometimes there’s oral therapy consuming cannabis, to help them with sleep maintenance. Sometimes both. Sometimes it’s a simple sleep hygiene adjustment. So if you have questions about your specific condition, please feel free to reach out to us here at Neurology of Cannabis. Our phone number is 941-400-1211. Email [email protected]. We’ve already learned a bit about substitution reactions in organic chemistry and the two different paths they can follow: SN1 and SN2. In order to better predict the products of a substitution reaction and understand how they work, we need to be able to figure out which mechanism a reaction is likely to follow. In this episode of Crash Course Organic Chemistry, we’ll deepen our knowledge of substitution reactions by looking at factors like substrate structure and reaction conditions to determine whether SN1 or SN2 is the more likely mechanism.
